Start with the dog's normal meal rather than something new, and put it down as you would any other bowl. A dog that gives up and walks away usually needs the food spread shallower for the first week.
Use and care
Use under supervision, particularly with a dog that chews objects. Wash and check for damage before each meal. This is a feeder, not a chew toy, and a dog that starts chewing pieces off it should not have it.
