The handle is the part most owners underrate. Lifting a wet dog out of a pool or over a boat gunwale by the collar is awkward and hurts the dog; a handle across the shoulders makes it a single clean movement.

Fit it snug enough that you can slide two fingers under the strap and no more. A loose jacket rides up over the head in the water, which is worse than no jacket.

Important

This is a buoyancy aid, not a life-saving device, and no safety claim is made beyond added flotation. It will not keep an exhausted, injured or panicking dog afloat, and it does not make a dog a swimmer.

Supervise at all times. Brachycephalic breeds, very young puppies and dogs with any heart or airway condition should not be swimming without veterinary advice first.
