What Saline and Flush Solutions Are For
Flushing. A grass seed in an eye, dirt in a fresh cut, a build up in an ear. Water is not sterile and human eye drops often contain things dogs should not have. A proper flush solution clears debris without doing more damage on the way through.
What to Choose
Ear cleansers

How to Flush an Ear
Fill the canal, massage the base of the ear for twenty seconds until you hear it squelch, then let the dog shake. Wipe only what you can see. Never push cotton buds down the canal: you compact debris against the eardrum and turn a cleaning job into a vet visit.
When to Stop and Call a Vet
A dog holding its head to one side, a smell, discharge, or pain on touch means stop flushing and get it seen. Cleaning an infected ear without treating the infection makes it worse. Anything in an eye that does not flush out in one attempt is also a vet job, because a scratched cornea deteriorates quickly.
