Some nails want clipping and some want grinding. A thick overgrown nail comes down fastest with a blade, and the rough edge that blade leaves is exactly what a grinder is for. This tool does both, so you are not putting one down to pick the other up mid paw.
Why it works
Clip first to take the length, grind second to round the edge. That order is faster than grinding a long nail all the way down, and it leaves a finish that will not catch on bedding, snag a jumper or scratch a child's arm.
The LED lights the nail directly, which is the only practical way to judge depth on a black nail. Both dogs and cats are covered by the head sizes.
For breeders

Using it
Take the length in one clean clip, well short of where you think the quick is. Then grind in passes of two or three seconds, checking the cut face each time. Stop when a pale circle appears in the centre, because the quick is right behind it.
Keep styptic powder within reach the first few times. Everyone catches a quick eventually, and having the powder to hand turns it into a ten second event instead of a bad memory for the dog.
