Sending a pup to its new family is far smoother when the basics travel with it. New owners rarely know what to buy first, and a pup that arrives with familiar bowls, bedding and toys settles faster in a house full of new smells and sounds.

This is the everyday kit behind a solid starter pack. Bowls and portable feeders. A bed and a cushion. Harness, lead, chew toys, dental care, absorbent pads. And a carrier for the drive home, which is the piece most people forget until the morning it is needed.

What Belongs in a Starter Pack

Start with feeding. A stainless steel or ceramic bowl is easy to clean and hard to chew, and a folding travel bowl is handy for the car and early outings. Add a bed sized for the pup rather than the adult dog it will become, since a smaller space feels more secure. Absorbent puppy pads or nappies cover the toilet training stage, and a couple of well made chew toys give teething pups something legitimate to work on. Include a dental kit and start the habit early, because adult dogs accept tooth brushing far better when it began in puppyhood.

Walking, Travel and Sizing

Choose a harness over a collar for lead training, and check the fit weekly, as a pup can outgrow a harness in a fortnight during a growth spurt. Two fingers should slide comfortably under every strap. Pair it with a lightweight lead from the dog leads range rather than a heavy adult clip. A soft carrier makes the drive home and early vet visits far less stressful, and adding feeding gear and a familiar smelling blanket helps the pup bridge the gap between your home and theirs.
